How long is the trip?
You will actually be on the water four to seven hours depending on the trip you choose and the water volume. The shuttle to the New River is ½ hour; 20 minutes back to base camp after the trip. The shuttle to the Gauley is ½ hour to the dam; one hour to Woods Ferry. The return shuttle is one hour.
Do we have to paddle?
Yes. Whitewater rafting is a team effort.
Do I have to know how to swim?
No. Everyone wears a US Coast Guard approved type V life jacket. Many non-swimmers raft with us each year.
Will I get wet?
Absolutely, but you will have the time of your life doing so!
What do we need to bring?
On the river, you will wear bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, and old tennis shoes or river sandals. Bring a change of clothes for after the trip.
When is the best time to raft?
It depends on what you are looking for. Every season is different and offers a unique experience. In the spring, the air and water temperatures are cooler, but the water is usually much higher. Summertime brings warmer temperatures and lower water levels. The days are longer, and this a great time for families and groups looking for summertime entertainment. Fall is the time for the twenty-two day Gauley season. The New River continues to have summer-like water with beautiful fall foliage.
Is there an age limit?
The age varies with each trip. Usually six is the youngest. We suggest minimum age limits for our different trips. Factors such as height, weight, maturity, and parental participation may raise or lower the minimum age. There is no upper age limit. We had a seventy-six year old grandmother who loved class IV whitewater. One of our older rafters was an eighty-three old hearing impaired man. Our oldest rafter was eighty-five.
When should I make a reservation?
The sooner, the better!
Can we pay when we get there?
Payment in full is required thirty days before the trip. Last minute reservations require immediate payment.
Not everyone in my group wants to do the same trip. What can be done?
Your group can choose to do several different trip options and meet back at our facility after their respective trips.
Can I shower after the trip?
Yes. Remember to bring a change of clothes, toilet articles, and a towel.
Do you accept credit cards?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
Is rafting dangerous?
Rafting does have its risks. Life presents all of us with opportunities, challenges, and risks. Nevertheless, we would not be in the business if we did not think that we could deal with the risks associated with whitewater rafting. We have an excellent safety record. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources commercial outfitter regulations require all guides to meet specific first aid and safety requirements. Our rafting trips carry first aid kits, rescue equipment, and radios. Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the river. Our goal is for you to have a fun and safe adventure. Listening carefully to your pre-trip safety talk and following your guide's directions help to insure your safety.
How long how you been in business?
We have provided over two hundred thousand days of adventure with 10 broken bones in 30 years.

Yes, if your camera is waterproof or you have a waterproof case.

Passages subcontracts with a local photography service. Every effort is made to photograph and video every trip and to have these available for sale at our facility immediately after your trip. You may purchase the photos, order different sizes, choose a photo CD, and/or video. To guarantee that your trip has a video, you may make pre-pay arrangements when you make your reservation.
Do you sell Gift Certificates?
Absolutely! Check with our office for details.
I am not part of a group. Do you have a trip for me?
Of course. We will make arrangements to include you with others so that you can experience the excitement of whitewater.

You can if he or she is available when you make the request when booking your reservation. Please remember that your favorite Passages guide my already be requested or have other commitments preventing us from honoring your request.
